Our Pet Segment is searching for a 2nd Shift Production Supervisor in our Dallas, TX location. This position executes the production schedule as communicated by the Production Planner adjusting as necessary for staffing and capacity constraints.  

Measures of Success

  • Production Coordination - Organizes and controls department operations in accordance with guidelines provided by Management. Will also monitor operations of Maintenance and Warehouse personnel and provide a direct channel of communication to Maintenance and Warehouse supervision in the event of a problem.
  • Operating Performance/Quality/OEE/LEAN – Provides input to the development of the annual operating budget including labor, material, expense and capital expenditure. Primarily, responsible for maximization of the effective use of labor, improvement of yield, Continuous improvement in OEE, reduction of Defects Per Million implementation of TPM & Lean concepts (5S). The incumbent amends operations through the effective collaboration of support groups to minimize cost and improve quality. 
  • Personnel - Coaches, counsels, and recommends appropriate action, up to and including discharge as the fair and consistent application of Central Life Sciences Policy and Procedures indicate. This position does not have hiring/firing authority without the approval of HR and the Sr. VP Operations. Approve and schedule employee vacations.  Maintain employee accountability. The Supervisor is important to the development of a healthy and encouraging workforce based on our Core Values. The supervisor is vital to developing a positive work environment based on empowerment and a servant-leader approach.
  • Health, Safety, Environment/Quality - Assures operations conform to guidelines governing the administration of quality and health and safety practices. Conducts monthly safety meetings, and periodically audits department’s conformance to quality standards.  Optimize processes to: increase quality, improve yield, improve health, safety and the environment.
  • Procedures - Assures compliance to Standard Operating Procedures. Develops and recommends procedures for approval for the purpose of process optimization, improved quality, or reduced price of non-conformance. Creates an environment of compliance and accountability based on willing engagement of the staff.
  • Internal Relationships- Effective communication with Human Resources, Quality Management, Materials Management, Technology Development, Engineering and Maintenance, and Finance and Accounting to support process and product quality improvement.

Ideal Candidate Attributes

  • B.S. Engineering preferred.  Strong background in lean/six sigma manufacturing. Also preferred.
  • Minimum two (2) years’ experience in a manufacturing environment.  Prior experience in any of the following:  extrusion, packaging, injection molding, liquids filling, or formulating.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills including all forms of communication. 
  • Must be able to analyze varied data including productivity, labor efficiency, scrap, yields, and financial performance reports to develop action plans for improvements.
  • Systems knowledge of SAP is a plus.
  • Must be able to read, write and converse in English.  The ability to speak Spanish is a plus.
  • Ability to work in a constant state of alertness and safe manner.

Working Conditions

  • Walking
  • Works in an office within the manufacturing facility, however, spend majority of time in manufacturing area where protective equipment may be required.  May be subject to noise from machinery and periodic exposure to the warehouse environment.
  • Periodic exposure to hazardous materials, noise, etc.  Protection as required by company policies including, but not limited to, use of respirators, gloves, coveralls, safety shoes, goggles, earplugs, and hard hat.
